Microalgae-based bioremediation has emerged as a promising, eco-friendly, and cost-effective approach for addressing complex environmental pollution challenges. This Call for Papers focuses on recent advances in the use of microalgae for the removal of nutrients, heavy metals, organic pollutants, and emerging contaminants from wastewater and other environmental matrices. It also explores innovative approaches for nutrient recovery, biomass valorisation, and integration of algal systems into circular bioeconomy frameworks. Contributions highlighting interdisciplinary research, technological innovations, and real-world applications are especially encouraged.
Keywords: microalgae; bioremediation; nutrient recovery; wastewater treatment; emerging contaminants; circular bioeconomy
