Aims & Scope

Air Quality and Climate Nexus (AQCN) is a gold open access, peer-reviewed international journal dedicated to advancing scientific understanding of the interactions between air quality, atmospheric composition, climate change, and their implications for ecosystems, human health, and society. The journal provides a multidisciplinary platform for high-quality research that addresses the physical, chemical, biological, and technological dimensions of the air quality–climate nexus across local, regional, and global scales.

The journal welcomes a wide range of research contributions that advance understanding of atmospheric processes, emissions, pollutant transformation, exposure, mitigation strategies, and climate–air quality feedbacks. Emphasis is placed on studies that integrate observations, laboratory experiments, modelling, data science, artificial intelligence, and decision-support approaches to address emerging challenges in air pollution and climate change. It is published quarterly online by Scilight Press.

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to:

  • Emissions, atmospheric chemistry, transport, transformation, and removal of air pollutants and climate forcers
  • Interactions among air pollutants, greenhouse gases, aerosols, clouds, radiation, weather, and climate
  • Climate change impacts on air quality, and air pollution impacts on climate
  • Co-benefits and trade-offs of air pollution control and climate mitigation strategies
  • Urban, regional, and global air quality modelling, forecasting, and scenario analysis
  • Aerosol formation, secondary organic/inorganic aerosols, particulate matter, ozone, reactive nitrogen, volatile and intermediate/semi-volatile organic compounds, and emerging atmospheric pollutants
  • Source characterization, emission inventories, receptor modelling, and source apportionment
  • Field observations, laboratory experiments, remote sensing, sensor networks, and mobile monitoring
  • Indoor–outdoor air exchange, urban microclimates, and built-environment influences on air quality and climate
  • Ecosystem impacts of air pollution and climate change
  • Applications of machine learning, artificial intelligence, data assimilation, and digital-twin approaches in air quality and climate research
  • Evaluation of mitigation and adaptation strategies, including nature-based solutions, urban design, clean energy transitions, and regulatory or management approaches
  • Development and assessment of tools, datasets, and methods that support integrated air quality and climate management

The journal particularly encourages interdisciplinary studies that link mechanistic understanding with practical solutions, policy relevance, and societal impact. Submissions should demonstrate scientific rigor, methodological transparency, and clear relevance to the coupled challenges of air quality improvement and climate resilience.
