Abstract
The paper provides a personal recollection of key developments in high- energy physics, from the quark model to CP violation and the November revolution. It highlights how pivotal theoretical breakthroughs, as the GIM mechanism and the formulation of the Standard Model, have been deeply intertwined with experimental discoveries shaping modern particle physics. Lastly a few suggestions are given to orient the search for a more fundamental theory beyond the Standard Model.
