Aims & Scope

Sustainable Bioprocess Engineering (SBE) is an international and peer-reviewed journal that provides a platform for technological advancements on bioprocesses and biosystems addressing carbon/nitrogen neutrality, design, operation, and scale-up in addition to AI, machine learning-driven modelling and optimization. The journal highlights the development of sustainable bioprocesses enabling enhanced bioenergy/biomaterial recovery, efficient biodegradation of emergent contaminants, and biodetoxification of hazardous materials for greenhouse gas mitigation and circular bioeconomy. SBE features cutting-edge original research, reviews, and case studies on bioprocesses and their engineered systems with low/no carbon/nitrogen emission and/or highly efficient biomaterials recovery, aiming to foster interdisciplinary exchange among researchers worldwide and serve the society for a sustainable future. SBE is published quarterly online by Scilight Press.

The journal covers topics relating to, but is not limited to the following:

  • Bioenergy and biomaterial recovery
  • Biomass reclamation and recycling
  • Bioprocess intensification and integration
  • Microalgal-bacterial consortium
  • Net zero/low carbon bioprocesses
  • AI-driven biosystem modelling and optimization
  • Bio-based products and biomanufacturing
  • Biomass-based industry and bioeconomy creation
  • Energy/resource self-sufficiency
  • Greenhouse gases emission/mitigation and carbon/nitrogen neutrality
  • Life cycle and sustainability assessment
