Aims & Scope
Aims
Environmental Contamination: Causes and Solutions (ECCS) is a gold open access journal that aims to publish high-quality research studies and critical reviews that address all relevant aspects of contamination of the environment (air, biota, sediment, soil, water, etc.) with anthropogenic chemicals. It is published quarterly online by Scilight Press.
Scope
Environmental Contamination: Causes and Solutions (ECCS) is broad in scope. It welcomes papers that address the following aspects of environmental contamination:
- Source apportionment/attribution
- Bioconcentration/bioaccumulation
- Transport within the environment and/or between environmental compartments
- Environmental and/or human health implications of chemical contamination
In addition, we publish studies reporting methods for preventing, minimising, and alleviating chemical contamination. Such studies include those that report sustainable chemical processes, renewable feedstocks, waste minimisation/recycling (Circular Economy), green solvents, and eco-friendly materials.
Studies may cover any anthropogenic chemical contaminant, whether the parent (see examples below) or metabolite/degradation product(s). Examples include:
- Heavy metals
- Microplastics
- Volatile organic compounds
- Persistent organic chemicals – e.g. PFAS, brominated flame retardants, PCBs, dioxins
- Consumer chemicals – e.g. sunscreen agents, plasticisers, organophosphate esters
- Pharmaceuticals/antibiotics
- Pesticides/herbicides
- Combustion-related contaminants – e.g. PAH, fuel additives
