Abstract

Rare-earth luminescent materials have emerged as the promising materials for biomedical applications. This review systematically summarizes the recent advances in the biomedical applications of rare-earth luminescent materials. And this review provides a systematic overview of the luminescence mechanisms, classification, and the synthesis strategies of rare-earth luminescent materials. To facilitate the technological advancement and practical implementation of rare-earth luminescent materials, this review summarizes and proposes systematic optimization strategies from multiple perspectives, including the improvement of optical properties, enhancement of biocompatibility, and development of scalable synthesis technologies. These efforts are expected to further facilitate their clinical translation in the precision medicine.
