The journal Progress in Diabetes Research (PDR) is an open access, peer-reviewed journal committed to the highest standards of scientific exchange across all facets of diabetes research. PDR has as its audience basic and clinical scientists who wish to publish original research into the causation, treatment, and sequela of diabetes. We recognize that our understanding of the etiology of this disorder is undergoing constant change as is its treatment. A major question is whether the long-established classification of diabetes as Type I and Type II and its subsequent clinical characterizations regarding the age of onset with or without concomitant states of obesity is accurate and sufficient.
